I have to admit that last week was a bit of a stressful and low week for me. I was having to battle against the bad habits I’d formed for years with poorly dealing with my problems. (Numbing with food, too much TV, and distracting myself with busyness). I hate to say that my poor habits out won for the most part. But a victory in my book is that I’m acknowledging it and now reflecting back on last week with a renewed attitude to do better this week. It’s all about lifting yourself back up to try again and equipping yourself with the insight and tools to keep working for your best self and life.

When I have times like this, I have to fight back with some major self-care. I have to acknowledge that I’m in stress mode and combat it with what I call my self-care checklist. I have to make sure that I’m diligently doing the items on this list throughout the week so that I’m at my best. Writing it down and putting it somewhere I can easily access it be reminded is the best way to be intentional with it. More often than not, taking care of my mental health is the first thing to go when I’m stressed and I completely do the opposite of what’s going to help me be mentally, physically or spiritually at my best. Once I realized that, I was able to start fighting against the habits that made me shut down, get anxious and totally self-sabotage myself.

So I sat down and wrote a list of things that I know I need to do everyday to make sure that I’m able to live at my best every day. I put the list on my mirror and even set timers on my phone to help me remember to do each item.

I’ve also added in my “Extra Love List” to help brainstorm ideas of healthier things I can do that will help me to relax and are meant just for me time. These are not daily activities, but rather fun things that will help lift my spirits when I need it.

I have designed this template for you to use to create your own self-care checklist. You can also find it in the resources section of my site. I’d love to see and hear about the items on your list. Either post a comment below, or tag me on instagram. @creatively_mindful_life
