I have so far this month been looking to each day to find one thing in which I am thankful for during this #SeasonOfGratitude! I notice a change in my attitude and outlook wherever I am when I am actively seeking the good in other people, the big moments, the small moments and everything in between. Finding joy is all about an inward perception of the world around you, and when you intentionally set out at the beginning of the day to seek God and His blessings, you will find that your life is FULL.
As today is Thanksgiving, I wanted to just take a moment to sit down and write out the Top 5 on my thankful for list. These things or people are what help motivate me and help shape me into the person I am each day.
My job
I am beyond grateful to have a job that I LOVE and I try not to take that for granted. Every single opportunity I had and the people I knew lead me to this place: my parents, my husband, my teachers, my mentors. I have worked hard, but I wouldn’t be where I am without them guiding my way. I am sure it is all in God’s plan and handiwork!
Husband
I am so blessed that God brought J into my life. He is my number one fan and supporter, my encourager, my home, my heart, my center, my puzzle piece, my wingman, my lover, my friend, my strength, my partner in everything. We have worked so hard for the relationship we have now and continue to do so every day. Each new day is an adventure with him and I am thankful that he is willing to put up with my crazy and that we get to tackle life’s ups and downs together.
Family
I literally wouldn’t even be sitting here right now if it weren’t for my parents. They gave me life and made a lot of sacrifices to make sure that I had opportunities to succeed in this life. I know that they’re cheering me on and hoping for the best for my future. I am also thankful that they blessed me with a life-long friend in my sister and nurtured the relationship between us when we were young.
“A Sister is both your mirror and your opposite.” – Unknown
This is pretty accurate of me and my sister in so many ways. Not only do we look very much alike, it’s like I can see myself and my life through her. Since I am the youngest, she has always been there. There has never been a life without Beka and I can’t fathom what that would be like. And although we are separated by many miles, she never seems too far from me because she is always in my thoughts.
I am also thankful to her for bringing three other special people into my life; her husband and their two (almost three – due in January!!) children. The times that we get to spend together are so special to me. I sadly don’t get to see them this Thanksgiving, but am looking forward to our time together at Christmas. There will be lots of hugs and laughter, bed time stories and snuggles.
My friends
I am so thankful to God for the people who surround me and fill up my cup on the daily. I am renewed in hope that there are truly wonderful and loving people in this world and I am blessed to know them. They encourage me, lift me up and help keep me on the straight and narrow.
I have struggled in the past with connection to other people. It takes vulnerability and as I have mentioned, I wasn’t always open to it. My habit was to retreat within myself and put up a façade of this “perfect” life. I have realized that human connection and a sense of belonging is what helps and heals us. I am truly grateful to those loving and trusting people who helped me learn this and that have been willing to be genuine and open about their own struggles. Thank you, Lord, for placing these people in my path.
Jesus Christ
I don’t put Him last because He is the least important. On the contrary, His sacrifice is the ultimate example of love. He gave his blood so that we could live and have a hope of eternal life with Him and the Father. I can’t think of anything above this that should get our praise and thankfulness every day. I think about all the things I may complain about that are “hard,” uncomfortable, or inconvenient. But can you imagine how hard it was for our Lord to go to the cross? Let us remember just how richly blessed we are in this modern world and not let our small inconveniences get in the way of serving Him and serving others. Let us strive to be Christ-like in all we do and say.
Whatever your plans are today, I wish you all a wonderful day of thanksgiving. If you are traveling, I pray that you all make it safely to and from your destination. I hope the time will be well spent with family. Or alternatively, do something that reminds you of the wonderful, blessed life you live.
Take a moment and tell me what item is #1 on your thankful for list this year. I’d love to hear from you in the comments section below!
I think family is my number one this year. I have been blessed with a husband who truly cherishes me and 2 beautiful daughters who have held up my hands through tough times. I have 2 (soon to be 3) beautiful grand daughters who love me. I have 2 wonderful sons-in-law that love my girls. God has truly blessed me well!
Thanks, Mom! God truly has blessed our family in so many ways. I’m so thankful for you and Dad!
I am thankful for my Catholic faith. I am thankful for my wonderful husband. He rarely complains, he takes care of.all of us and loves unconditionally
Thank you for stopping by, Pam! It sounds like you have a lot to be thankful for. A loving husband is a true blessing. I hope you and your family had a wonderful Thanksgiving!
